Real estate investment can take many forms, ranging from the traditional, direct ownership and trading of tenanted land and buildings to today’s capital markets, where real estate revenues are traded as securities or derivatives.

Greater flexibility and availability of indirect property investment products, plus improved performance benchmarking data, means that real estate has attracted growing interest alongside traditional asset classes such as equities and bonds.

The real estate investment market has then become much more complex and global in its nature, as conventional real estate risks are managed as part of international multi-asset portfolios.

Real estate finance is now available from banks, insurers and private equity, with appropriate gearing allowing real estate investors and developers to have access to larger opportunities and to leverage higher returns.

On this course, participants will learn about the financial markets and how real estate operates as an active alternative asset class in both public and private markets. They will learn how equity, bonds and alternative assets compare, compete and complement each other as part of the broader investment portfolios.
